M&S Model A Shocks

Hey guys,
I just ordered a set of model a shocks from M&S. have I made a mistake? I talked with them for over an hour as I was Leary of a sealed reproduction shock. Of course they assured me it was a great product. It was important to me to have the correct look, so I ordered a set that were new but with original covers. I have been doing some reading and have heard of bill stipes ones etc etc. but.... So, a mistake? Real experience answers only please, no uneducated opinions. My hard earned cash is at stake here and some of the reading I have done has concerned me.

i have them on my car i dont do much driving maybe about 250 miles a year and only had one problem the link broke off the shock body. they mailed me another shock no questions asked. otherwise they seem to have been good, not sure how they would hold up on heavy duty use....

Well, to ease your comfort, the Stipe shocks are 'no more', ...at least for the time being (-and likely for awhile too). Therefore that eliminates that equasion for you. I have used M&S without being pleased, but maybe that is because of the leaks, ...or them becoming non-functional after a year or so. If they could correct those problems, then maybe most could live with the fact they don't operate as well as a Stipe shock or a properly functional origional Houdialle shock but for the money could be a good alternative. It should be worth noting that many so called "rebuilt" original shocks that I have experienced do not really function like a NOS original or Stipe shock when it comes to the "action" or the adjustability.

Concerned about leaking, breaking etc but also ride quality.....

That doesn't ease my mind at all!! Lol. They leak? They don't work anymore after a year? Oh no!! I think you can still get stipes from brattons? Like $1000? I hear m&s is good for replacing and stands by their product but what I really want is not to have to deal with leaks etc. I just want them to work!

Did you make a mistake ? Yep, sure did. I have a set I'd probably give you, they don't work.

Some of the vendors may still have Stipe shocks.

I'm kinda stuck with em now since I already ordered so. Figures crossed I guess.

Well compared to how they were 80 years ago or compared to the famous Stipe ones that I've heard only good reviews onI guess...

Haha shit! They were that good eh? I just phoned and tried to cancel the order. Hope he gets the message before he puts it thru. Dammit.

Re: M&S Model A Shocks

Anybody else have reviews? Or know if the ones I are at Brattons are stipes?
Brattons says:
New US tooled shock
60/40 action, adjustable and refillable oil reservoir
$1030.00 for set of 4 shocks only

I guess I will just call tommorow

I have had M & S shocks on my huckster for over two years. I have driven it about 1500 miles in those two years. I am not an expert on how shocks should work but so far as I can tell, they are doing the job they are suppose to do. No leaks.

See my reply to "A shock absorbers". If you get them from M&S, test them before putting them on. Ron W

Re: M&S Model A Shocks

Brattons, to my knowledge, does not stock them. They have them drop-shipped from Bill Stipe. So I'm thinking you are out of luck. I have a car with a set of M&S, and one is leaking.

I ordered a set from this weekend and guess what. They arrived today; drop shipped from Bratton's Stipe.

So they are drop shipped from where I wonder? Not Stipe, I assume since he's not doin them anymore? I know he's on this forum, maybe he will come in and enlighten us. How do you know they are stipes? Is there a easy way to tell? I can see myself calling brattons and them saying they don't know who makes em or sumpin....
