The repro female dovetail assembly rant

I ordered four of the female dovetail assembly #A-61412 for my '31 Briggs Fordor, and all of them are too large. The crimping was woefuly inadequate. They are absolutely JUNK!

Where did you say America is going, and what's it doing in that handbasket?

A: where id you get them?
B. Did you call the company and talk to them?
C. Are your male bits original?
D, Who said these weren't made in the USA?

Sometimes it's a bit much to expect one half of a mated pair to be exactly reproduced when the original is over 75 years old. I bought a pair of repro headlight rims for an OT set of Mack headlights with the turn signals built in. I already head the buckets, but rusty rims. They make the whole unit, I just bought the rims and they are ever so slightly too small.

I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to make them fit-no answer yet, but that's the way it is. Good luck-but call the supplier first,eh?

Rock: Do a search as these have been discussed before I believe. Yo may have to "modify" them to fit.

Sounds like the ones I bought for my 68C Briggs body Cabriolet. The male part has been demolished to trash and the female part resembles what you describe.

I agree with the handbasket and the previous post about the engine that had a paint rebuild. It is about the dollar and as long as nobody complains, they keep getting the dollars.

I spent about an hour on one of them today. Used a vice, a small ball pene hammer and a little heat. I was able to force the crimping in, and take the bulges out of what was supposed to be the flat metal area. I did mange to make it fit. Now that I've completed the learning curve, the others will take less time. I did send an email to the supplier.

Good job!

I was told that they all come from the same manufacturing source. I wish I knew of an American Manufacturer. I know that Bob Drake makes good parts for my '55 F-100.

Rock,
I noticed on Snyder's site, there's MANY different kits for the dovetail female slot. Are you SURE you got the right ones? Bill W.

Bill,
I got the right ones for a Briggs Fordor, as sure as Buster T wags his tail.

I am no expert by any means, but it seems to me that most aftermarket parts need a little tweaking to fit properly.
Even some original Ford parts don't just bolt right on.

Re: The repro female dovetail assembly rant

Received an email response from the supplier. They are reporting the problem to the manufacturer.
