1960 F100 Custom Cab Rebuild Project Questions

Im having trouble figuring out what all the serial number means. Its F10C0K24873 which means its an F100 but it has 4WD so shouldnt it be F11 for the start instead of F10?

Anyways heres the rest of the photos i have from it.. forgot to take before pictures of the engine.. got too excited and just started tearing it apart :P This is my first rebuild project.

When i got to the pistons.. every single cell was filled with antifreeze :/ it think im going to have to take out the engine anyways to check the timing and clean everything.. also have to figure out why the clutch is locked up. Probly wont work on it today with the 40 mph winds blowing.. will update once i continue working on it.

In 1960, the factories didn't always put in four wheel drive. It was often an aftermarket company. NAPCO was popular in the 50's. 1960 was about the turning point. Your engine looks very clean inside for an old Y block. It must have been treated with love.

I was thinking the engine must have been replaced at some time. Notice position of the dip stick, trucks are usually on the side in the middle to accommodate the truck rear sump pan, cars are in front like his...

It might have been taken care of :P From what i heard from the farmers i got it from was it has been sitting there for a long time.. the oil was VERY dirty when i drained it :) Anyways after today i got the engine fully out and found that a mouse was living in the clutch/flywheel.. needless to say his home has been relocated :) Also found out why the clutch wasnt working.. the piece that engages and disengages the clutch was rusted and locked up... the pic is below. Thats all i got done today due to the wind :/ Probly be working on it tommorrow taking the rest of the engine apart and maybe start on the inside. It was too dark to take pictures of the engine out of the truck but i can tommorrow and post them.. Thanks for the info about the 4WD ill look at it tommorrow and see if i can find any stamps or lettering on the transmission or transfer case. And so far yes i am having fun :)
P.S that my dog trying to find the mouse :)

Heres the pictures of the engine.. and i allready took off the clutch which needs to be replaced along with the flywheel. Pistons look really damaged :/ Other than that ill see what i can get done today..

Just an update of what ive done the past couple days... I finished taking the engine apart and degreased it.. painted a couple pieces to see what it will look like when i put it back together.. and gathering all the parts i need to rebuild it.

A little clarification on factory vs non-factory Ford 4x's...
Prior to 1959, Ford 4x's were generally Marmon-Harrington conversions.. Staring in 1936 four wheel drive could be ordered from Ford, in ANY BODY Style.. The desired vehicle was purchased from the local dealer, the vehicle was then sent to MH for conversion to four wheel drive.
In 1959 Ford came out with their own four wheel drive trucks, F100, F250 & F350.. These units were all built on the Ford truck line... There are many features incorporated into the '59-66 Ford 4x's that are only found in the 4x's.
As a general rule the running gear on a '59, 60 Ford F100 will be Dana 44's. As a general rule the front and rear axles are the same, the front having a slightly higher ratio than the standard 3.89-1.. The ratio can be as low as 4.56-1. However, from time to time the rear axle can be a Ford 9".. Dana 44's were also used in the F250's, F350 will generally be Dana 60's..
The transmission is generally a Borg Warner T98 4 spd.
I have four Ford 4xs, Three F100's, 2 '59's a '60 and a '66 F250.
I have been fooling around with '59-60 Ford F100's for over thirty years. I have lots of parts for them..

I have attached a pix of one of my '59 F100 4x's. This truck has undergone a complete off the chassis restoration.. Very unusual truck, it is a big window Custom Cab, with about every accessory that Ford had to offer.. Limited slip axles, the very rare safety package, i.e. padded dash, padded visors and two heaters... The truck came from Havre, MT.

I noted in your 5/17 comments and pix that you are painting your engine parts Ford blue.. The correct color for a '58-64 truck 292 is black with red valve covers...

The pistons don't look to be that damaged. What I see is carbon buildup on the top of the pistons ( normal ) other than the one that looks like it may have had some water in it. Is there a ridge at the top of the cylinders? If so, that should be removed before the pistons come out. That takes a specialized tool, not a grinder. At that point a bore gauge needs to be used to measure cylinder wear.

The flywheel doesn't look that bad either. That can be machined and reused.
