where to find pistons

I am in process of rebuilding a 59AB motor. 3.187 bore needs to be bored to +.040 or +.060
Std crank needs to be turned 10/10
Question is where can I find these pistons, rods and main bearing in stock?
Which manufacture is best?
3 ring or 4 ring?
highway and town driving.

Re: where to find pistons

Try EGGE Machine, they should be able to help, maybe Mac's too.

Patrick's (Egge)... Ross...
eeny, meeny miny, moe...
(I'd question, and give some thought to, that 'std' crank. Some builders suggest considering an 8BA crank (& rods). My local builder even provides the 8BA crank for free, but still need to pay for 8BA rods, and turning.)

Re: where to find pistons

I used EGGE pistons on my last 2 builds. Not sure if they have 3 ring ones for 59ab. 4 rings are fine for street guys. Now, why do you have to bore from stock 40 or 60? I hope you are not thinking big bores will add to performance. Your machine guy should have the pistons in hand before honing. They do vary a bit sometimes.

Re: where to find pistons

The 59 and earlier engines use "Floating rod bearing" which are quite expensive and need to be fit to the crank. Original 4 ring pistons can be had from Job lot and others. These will keep you engine in Balance , for your application. Converting to an 8BA crank and rods maybe just as expensive. Ask your machine shop if they are fimilar with floating bearings.

Re: where to find pistons

3 ring or 4 ring makes little difference in a street engine. My near stock C59A has 3 ring pistons. There are other options than .040 and .060, for instance my engine is .045, I had no trouble getting rings, and there's a brand new set same size complete, pistons, rings, pins on a local auction site here in New Zealand. A company in US called H&H would be a good place to start.
