where to find pistons I am in process of rebuilding a 59AB motor. 3.187 bore needs to be bored to +.040 or +.060
Std crank needs to be turned 10/10 Question is where can I find these pistons, rods and main bearing in stock? Which manufacture is best? 3 ring or 4 ring? highway and town driving. |
Re: where to find pistons Try EGGE Machine, they should be able to help, maybe Mac's too.

Re: where to find pistons Patrick's (Egge)... Ross...
eeny, meeny miny, moe... (I'd question, and give some thought to, that 'std' crank. Some builders suggest considering an 8BA crank (& rods). My local builder even provides the 8BA crank for free, but still need to pay for 8BA rods, and turning.) |
Re: where to find pistons I used EGGE pistons on my last 2 builds. Not sure if they have 3 ring ones for 59ab. 4 rings are fine for street guys. Now, why do you have to bore from stock 40 or 60? I hope you are not thinking big bores will add to performance. Your machine guy should have the pistons in hand before honing. They do vary a bit sometimes.

Re: where to find pistons The 59 and earlier engines use "Floating rod bearing" which are quite expensive and need to be fit to the crank. Original 4 ring pistons can be had from Job lot and others. These will keep you engine in Balance , for your application. Converting to an 8BA crank and rods maybe just as expensive. Ask your machine shop if they are fimilar with floating bearings.

Re: where to find pistons 3 ring or 4 ring makes little difference in a street engine. My near stock C59A has 3 ring pistons. There are other options than .040 and .060, for instance my engine is .045, I had no trouble getting rings, and there's a brand new set same size complete, pistons, rings, pins on a local auction site here in New Zealand. A company in US called H&H would be a good place to start.
