New use for old Camshafts

I found a neat way to use some old camshafts; as table legs. The top is a piece of the eucalyptus tree we took out last spring, about 4" thick. It weighs a bunch, but it will support my favorite beverage.

Neat use for old cams but how did you cut the wood? I dulled and burned a chainsaw trying to cut eucalyptsus tree.

PC, look into buying a Carbide tipped chain. Saw a man cutting 6" ROOTS, down in the dirt, even, with one. For homeowner use, they'll almost last forever! Bill W.

I drilled a cam lengthwise years ago and made a lamp out of it.

I have 3 cams and was going to make an aluminum boomerang shaped table years ago........but it's still waiting. I have a carb lamp, 2 paint gun lamps and a parking meter lamp.....auto parts are the best furniture.

The profile of the teeth for cutting eucalyptus is different to the profile for cutting other woods. It also has to be sharpened at certain angles to prevent quick blunting.

To 1oldtimer above: I have an Edmund and Jones 1913 era acetylene headlight. Is this the sort of thing that you referred to as your "carb lamp"? I would like to know how you made the lamp.

It cuts real easy when it is green, and becomes rock hard when it dries. Bill

It's an actual carb, a Rochester 2 jet that was junk. I bought a lamp kit from Builders Emporium (it was that long ago) and found some wood for a base. Did the same thing with my old paint guns.
