Y block stroker crank
 

Does anyone manufacture a new stroker y block rotating assembly. We Know some offer a 331 stroker with a core charge on the old 312 crank but surely there is a new rotational assembly on offer? We feel the economics of finding and rebuilding may outweigh a new assembly.
We wish to increase the capacity of our 292 industrial motor to a good torquey street motor to blow off pesky SBC.

Ted Eaton from Texas is the man to seek. He is a machinist who has built some large Y blocks and is considered the horse power king of Y blocks.

you are going to find that companies will put out something for the Y block but they will come at a price (moldex crank). The issue is that 312 cranks are getting very hard to come by (don't ask me how I know), but no one company has stepped up to start manufacturing replacement cranks for the 312 (or 292 for that matter). 292's are still so plenteous, you should follow Ole Don's advice about Ted Eaton.

what complicates matters further is that there is a heap more talk and scuttlebutt about manufacturing a new block that will be a 4" bore but still be Y block. Of course, Mummert already has heads going and they are so popular they cannot keep up with the demand.

Oh for more 312 cranks!!!

At the moment that crank would have to be a Billet. The Y block crank is a project we have in mind, but at the moment there is no firm ETA. What does your budget and timeframe look like?

If someone had a lot of time, it may be interesting to see how many four inch Mercury crankshafts were made for Flatheads, and how many 312 cranks made for Y blocks. I think the low number would surprise many. The fact that SCAT responds is wonderful news.

312 strock that fits in a 292 block is good,can that be done even,I know that would take new pistons or rods or both:confused:

312 crank can be modified to fit the 292 block. Main journals must be turned to fit the 292 block mains, bore the block for 312 pistons and install the 312 crank, rods and pistons and bingo!! 312 engine.:):)

Yep - the last build I did the machinist did exactly that - turned down the mains to 292 std size. The only issue was that we could not keep the oil slinger. The shops stone was not small enough to get between the crank flange and the oil slinger itself as I recall...

Alex. The sooner the better for some kind of stroker crankshaft for the Y engines. A 3.600" stroke with 2.00" journals would be a popular seller on my end but something with the Honda rod journals and even more stroke would be suitable. I've built several Y's with the Honda journals and a 4.000" stroke that assemble with a minimum of misery. I've no issues with a cast crank for this application as most builds are being targetted for 500 HP or less. Ted.

I was lucky. The crank grinder that turned my 312 to 292 mains first said he didnt have a stone small enough to save the slinger. I expected it to be gone when I picked the crank up, but it was still there! They found the smaller stone.

Great on how to turn a 312 crank down to fit a 292 and make a torque monster stroker. BUT try and find a 312 crank is the question. So we must just wait patiently until SCAT or similar finds time to produce something as demand increases.

The 272/292 cranks can also be offset ground. While this does not get the same stroke increase that you get by doing that to a 312 crankshaft, it's still relatively easy to get a 3.48" stroke out of the 272/292 crankshafts. And there are a multitude of 272/292 cranks laying loose so that ends up being a less inexpensive option for increasing the cubic inches on your Y.
