Dual exhaust manifolds I have a 292 Y block
I see a guy on Craigslist who has a set of manifolds for $80. Used to be $100. They look brand new. Is this a good price? My new engine I am putting in has the ears cracked on mine. But I have my old manifolds which are in good shape. I would just like to sell those with the engine. Also I notice a lot of them have the aluminum color paint in them. Where do I get that? These are not painted. However would the heat just burn off no matter what the paint? |
Re: Dual exhaust manifolds $80.00 is an OK price for the good manifolds, but not great. There are more than one type. The good ones are flat on top. They flow very well for that CI size. If you clean the manifold very well, hang it up and spray it with VHT exhaust paint. Only enough paint to cover so it wont crack and peel. If you have a truck, you could use the rams horns, They flow better than passenger headers. Factory bolt torque is amazingly low. The factory used flat washers and the bolts are like 12 to 15 Ft. Lbs to prevent broken ears

Re: Dual exhaust manifolds Thank you. I have heard that about the ram horns. But this will be going in a 57 Fairlane 500.
I was thinking $80 isn't horrible either. BUT $60 is a lot better! I will try to post a pic of them. They look really clean. As in new clean. |
Re: Dual exhaust manifolds 2 Attachment(s)
this is what they look like. and like i said... they're clean looking.

Re: Dual exhaust manifolds Offer him $60 for them and see what happens. Or $70, Hey if you bought a pair from someone that is not local to you, you'd have to pay shipping. That could cost a bit based on the weight of the manifolds and packing supplies.

Re: Dual exhaust manifolds Very true. I like these because they are so clean. I am sure I could get them cheaper from the all ford junkyard close to me
|
Re: Dual exhaust manifolds Btw. Have ram horns been tried with success on a car? Or is it not even worth the bother.

Re: Dual exhaust manifolds ARG! That is what I figured

Re: Dual exhaust manifolds I just tried to sell a set off of a 57 312 at autofair in Charlotte for 50 bucks but could only get 25 dollars for them and they were in good condition, all cleaned up and painted. Don't pay too much, they aren't that hard to find.

Re: Dual exhaust manifolds For coating, I use Hi Temp Cast Blast. It has lasted three years now without problems. You must sandblast them.
|
Re: Dual exhaust manifolds @Paul2748 Even though they are that clean? For sandblasting?
|
Re: Dual exhaust manifolds On the new ones, try hanging them up and washing down with acetone or lacquer thinner before paint. Let air dry and blow off. The factory used no gaskets here, but most gasket sets now include very nice easy to use gaskets. If you spray the soft side with WD 40, they can be re-used.

Re: Dual exhaust manifolds Thanks Ole Don for the info!!
|
Re: Dual exhaust manifolds If those manifolds are 57 and up grab them as I have seen people asking up to 200 for them,I have less then 60 in the pair I have but got then one at a time. Even if the manifolds are 55/6 80 is not too bad as I have seen some asking around 125 for a pair of them and they were not cleaned up.

Re: Dual exhaust manifolds If they don't have any rust on them, then you don't need blasting.
