Modern points plate: for what it's worth.......
 

When I bought my fordor, it was a train wreck of a barn find. The day I got it running was also the first day I had ever herd a model a run. It always had a bit of a lope, or a random stumble miss at idle, as well as throughout the rpm band. I always attributed it to a carb issue or the fact that it was just an old car. When I put the car together I opted to use a modern points plate. I guess, being a younger guy, I assumed that if its modern it must be better. I have been rebuilding the original distributor which I just completed, just for kicks I decided to install it on my now running and on the road fordor and lo and behold, it ran like a Swiss watch!

Smooth idle, steady acceleration.... I couldn't believe it. As an experiment, I removed the modern upper plate on my new distributor and replaced it with the one from you original distributor and I got the same result. To be sure of my findings I replaced the modern plate and it ran like crap again.

So I learned my lesson, sometimes new or modern doesn't mean better.

I put "leakless" water pumps,alternators & electronic ign in the same category.JMHO.
