Replacement shocks
 

Good morning,
I'd like to know what replacement shocks are available for my 29, Tudor. Currently my shocks are knock-off's designed in the 60's to look like original. They are shot so I don't have rebuildable cores.
I've read that there is a shock that will bolt up to the chassis and work well for a lot less than $1,000. The car is pretty much original and I won't use tube shocks.
Any leads on this?

I have the same problem. All original shock adsorbers are defective. It's not possible to repair them.



New rebuilt like original are at this time not on stock by Snyders an Macs.


The tube absorber are not allowed in Germany.

Why do you say it is not possible to build them? I saw an article where the old shocks were repaired.

First we have original. Small amount refundable, larger amount just rusted junk where no parts at all are good and a larger amount in the middle.


A) The Junk ones are just that!


B) While economical rebuilding of shocks can be done IF the shocks presented are within specifications.


C) The vast majority of shocks out there can be rebuilt. Before you hit the reply button to say otherwise read on. These need sleeves, lathes, mills, welders etc. To pay someone to build these would cost way, way more then anything new. BUT if you have the equipment, maybe you are retired with time on your hands and would do the work "just to do something" you can help out the model A owner.


After market,


A) The most original working Shocks are sold by Stipes. These are made and work just like originals and I've been told you can use original parts on these if you want. They are made in the USA and are the most expensive.


B) There are two other redesigns. They look like the original shocks to the casual observer but share nothing else. Snyders and Brattons, if I remember correctly are the ones having these made.


C) Tube shocks, there are several designs for sale some you drill holes in the car parts other you do not. Consensus is that you need to find oil filled shocks as gas filled shocks are too stiff.
