Re: Not Flathead but good tire smoke. Big Daddy's story. I saw him run at the tri cities airport around 1968. This was a small local track and he set a new track record. In the week preceding the race his rail was in the new car showroom of the local Chrysler dealer. Something I’ll never forget.

Re: Not Flathead but good tire smoke. Big Daddy's story. Visted the Don Garlits museum two weeks ago. Well worth the time, just a short drive
north of Orlando. Besides all the drag racing history, there is plenty of flathead Ford history as well. The display of carbs and intakes is impressive. |

Shook his hand. It hurt for a day :D Read the book. Very entertaining I learned how he got that grip |
Re: Not Flathead but good tire smoke. Big Daddy's story. Don Garlits and has wife Pat (RIP) are a great inspiration to all.
Thank you Don for all the good you have done for the sport and to others. |
Re: Not Flathead but good tire smoke. Big Daddy's story. I met him "sorta" when he was at Bonnieville for the first time, 85 ish? Mostly we had beers with his crew in the hotel. The crew said, on the way there Don said he could not remember the last time he was going to a track he had never been to ! Also, he said it was a lot of fun to stay on the gas for more than 4 seconds ! I used to have a picture of him with his foot up on my bumper watching the runs. Sadly, the photo went in my fire in 2010
