Did you notice the Model A Town Car in the background?

You don't see Model-A town cars...

Re: Town Car

I think they were sold in Lincoln showrooms, hence the fact that one was in a Lincoln showroom. I suspect that someone shopping for a car in a Lincoln showroom would not be too interested in a Model A Town Car.

There were 96 Town Cars made in 1930 (Great Depression beginning to hit).

They made 1,013 Town Cars in 1929 (peak year of the Roaring 20's boom).

They made 89 in 1928 (ramping up production).

They didn't make/sell any in 1931, when the Great Depression was really in full swing.

As a side note, unemployment in the USA peaked at 25% in 1932. Think about how we all panicked when US unemployment got up around 10% a few years ago (and it was bad, I'm not trying to make light of it). Now think about 25%.

It is hard to tell a real Town Car from a "made one up from a Fordor Sedan" Town Car replica, unless you look at it from the back. It is pretty easy to make the rest of the car look correct.

Look at these pictures of a beautifully restored Town Car from the back and you will see the distinctive sharp edges of the body and the roof line in the back. If the back of the car does not look like this, it is not an original Town Car.

Making body stamping dies for such low production amazes me.

AKA, the "Poor Man's Lincoln."

Which - if you're in that market - you don't bother with the low end "loss leaders."

Which besides the ongoing depression, explains.

Re: Town Car

I read somewhere, many years ago, that the luxury car market dried up in the Depression in part because it became not cool to flaunt your wealth when so many people were suffering. Even in the Depression there were still rich people who could afford luxury vehicles and chauffeurs.

Re: Town Car

As in most all town cars they have blind quarter windows. The rich rear seat passengers didn't want to see or be seen by the "Great Unwashed".
