1955 Cruiser skirt history Hey hi guys, I wonder if an expert here can help. My neighbor insists that his buddy, back when, had a '55 with factory equipped cruiser skirts. My memory sees these only on modified ( mild customs) cars. What say y'all? Thanks for your time.

Re: 1955 Cruiser skirt history I remember those skirts as coming out on 57 Turnpike cruiser's. Am I wrong?

That's not to say they were not available or were dealer add-on. Sorta in the same league as CONT KITS. https://i.ebayimg.com/thumbs/images/...JQ/s-l1200.jpg |
Re: 1955 Cruiser skirt history great styling back in the day...

Re: 1955 Cruiser skirt history I would take a guess and say your buddies neighbor probably bought a '55 that had the cruiser skirts on it and assumed they were original. I doubt they were available on 55's.
Like mentioned by Ole Don, I don't think they were even offered in aftermarket until '57 or so, inspired by the Mercury Turnpike cruiser. Sal |

Re: 1955 Cruiser skirt history I have a 55 fairlane 2 door club sedan with rear fender skirts. Are you saying it did not come that way from the factory?
|
Re: 1955 Cruiser skirt history Fender skirts were a factory accessory in '55. The big cruiser skirts that went from before the rear wheel opening to the rear bumper were not. Like in the picture in posts #3 and 4. The factory accessory skirts fit into the actual wheel opening in the rear fender.

Re: 1955 Cruiser skirt history Thanks to all for the input. Now I'm thinkin', the lad misused the term cruiser. I was certain at the start that cruisers were add ons. Since only the 'big' players, with extra money went for them, along with the other usual add ons of the day. : Glaspacks, whip antennas, chrome tailpipe tips, flipper caps, inside trunk release, any thing that would hang on the mirror, extra bumper guards, lakers, and dumps, and maybe louvres and pinstriping ( not the stuff from Pep Boys) ooops, pardon the rant I must have gotten lost again!:)

Re: 1955 Cruiser skirt history Don't forget curb feelers...
If you were a big player you put them on both sides of the car... :D |
