brake equalizers
 

Has anyone come out with brake equalizers for the 1941 style brakes with the fixed bottom pin? I used them on my 1935 and they work great. Flathead Teds if I remember correctly.

Never heard of "equalizers" for hydraulic brakes, like on the '41, versus the mechanical brakes on the '35. To get self-energizing brakes on a '41, replace at least the front backing plate assemblies with Lincoln/Bendix brakes. MT sells sets for about $400.

Are you sure the shoe with the short lining (primary) is on the side facing forward. and is activated by the small end of the wheel cylinder, while the secondary (long) lining faces back, and is operated by the large end of the wheel cylinder? We often find then reversed, which affects braking.

Isn't that backwards for the Lockheed brakes? Bendix short shoe to the front, Lockheed short shoe to the rear.

I've posted this in the past. Back like 10 yrs ago I bought brake shoes for a 1940 and all were the same. I asked Dick Spadaro about that and he said don't worry about having long and short shoes. So I just put them on.

I just received a set of front brake shoes and all 4 lining were the same length.
Will they work ok ? Moe

I'm sure the Ford engineers did it for a reason (short shoe vs long shoe), but not sure how much difference it would make in actually stopping performance. But I would think it would be important to install the wheel cylinders in the correct orientation, the large side toward the front.

Floaters: The current floaters are for mechanical brakes. Flathead Ted is/was working on a floater for the Lockheed brakes. The last I heard Ted was in the testing and patent phase.

Sorry guys I should have said floaters. I have an idea of how to do it, but lack the proper equipment to make the parts, also the long and short shoe brakes would be the latter style Bendix or Lincoln style. they are self energizing already. I'm referring to the early style fixed bottom of the shoe type. IE 39 early hydraulic.
