1932 Ford Frame
 

Can anyone tell me the weight of a bare 32 frame with all 3 crossmembers (front, k, rear) installed? I asked over on the Hamb a few days ago and it turned into a trivia guessing game! One guy referred me here and said if anyone would know it would be David G. I am trying to ship and need a weight for the shipper. Thank you! 60 Special

Sorry, I never encountered a frame weight figure in Ford's archives nor had the occasion to weigh one. I have the weight of the various bodies fully trimmed, but that's no help to you.

Just set it on a bathroom scale! They go to 300 lbs.

it would be easy to do the math with repro parts. all are being made, with the shipping weight for the part, except perhaps the rear cross member, but any aftermarket alternative would be close enough for shipping

Dont know the exact weight, but years ago when my back was still young a friend and I hoofed a bare frame with crossmembers a mile through the Portland Swap Meet to the parking lot.

The weight should be around 300 but the size will be the issue if being shipped. I bought one 32 frame from California years back and that was 700 to ship to Chicago

I am guessing that the physical dimensions of the frame will determine the cost more then the weight. As Karl stated, 2 people can easily carry a frame. The times I have carried one end or the other of one, it didn't feel like my end was over 100 lbs. I don't know about a repro frame and have only moved many originals.

When I ship one of my re pro frames I figure 260 lbs. You have deduct the boxing plates and I know my tubular center X weighs more than the K member. The re pro front cross member should zero out and the stock rear cross member should weigh a little more than the 1.50/3/16 wall rear tube. That 260 figure includes F&R spreader bars. I think deuce roadster is close at 200 lbs? I have also always used class 85 as shipping class but some companies use class 150 or 300 which really raises the shipping cost.

I have carried a lot of 33 and 34 frames around by myself, so have a hard time believing 300 lbs. I would guess more in the 200 to 250 lbs range.

The guys that mention size have it pretty much correct. Less than a full load or LTL freight is more influenced by size than weight but weight does have an affect. It is likely that any load between 200 and 400 lbs would be the same in cost difference but size can boost it up also. Distance to ship is a big factor as well. Call a local shipper or a freight broker and see what the weight ranges are. Shipping freight collect is another possibility but it is nice to lock it into a set price.

Density is the factor between size and weight. This is what the class is based on. If it was disassembled, the density would be less if bundled on a long pallet so the class would likely be lower.

Length is also a factor with a 32 frame just falling at the limit of most companies length limit before a surcharge is assessed. I always prepay my freight as it seems to stop the up charges later added on by some of the companies on collect freight.

The last time I shipped a heavily rusted 1932 frame the weight was 242 LBS..

You could ring one of the companies that sell reproduce frames( Brookville maybe) and ask you hem how heavy one is...should get you there or there abouts.

Back in 1958 I managed to hoist one on top of my parent's 55 Chevy all by myself. Can't be too heavy.
