We got a new engine .....

Fired it up - first time today

First (short) ride was BAD :eek:

Some adjustments later, 2nd ride was WAY better :)

Its running smooth (even its new) and provides
LOTS of power :D

Still lots of work to do.

Also I am glad to know that I am not the only guy on the whole planet that has a kink in his spark adjust rod. :D

the bent spark rod is an OK temporary farmer fix, but eventually the steering column should be rotated so everything lines up correctly with the rod straight. see the procedure on Marco's web site......

The engine and compartment look very nice.
I see you insulated the first spark plug strap, so you are probably using a timing light.

Original engine ist still running but tired.
Took it out of the car and stored it propper (hopefully)

New engine is a rebuilt of an old engine

Its got inserts, oil pressure, is counterbalanced and
has 5,5-head (shame on me) :o
Excuse: no one over here to do (payable) rebabbits and
US-Vendors dont have overseas warranty :mad:
( Scruple is gone once using 2nd rearlight, fuses and 3:54axle :eek: )

But it has to be a driver as we want to drive even more than we
did last year.

First start was somewhat bumpy
It stalled often till i found out that
- manifolds not tightened :mad::mad:
- sparks without propper clearence (no 2 had contact) :mad::mad::mad:

I did shout the mechanic to be an idiot (which was me) :mad::mad:

Full floating engine now (chances to use engine-pans in future??)

Once driving, there are strange speed related noises (going off the throttle)
Got to find out about :confused:
(Noises are still arround if im "out of gear" so its not the engine).

Additional there are slight noises from leakless waterpump area
(might a new leakless have a bad bearing???)

Thought there might be comments regarding oil-pipe to the camshaft..

Ja - Tom i know that you got sharp eyes and you are right :D
I thought you would comment the oil-caps on the starter too :p

Sorry to state that i did not know regarding kink in spark-rod
as i (back in time) bought the first A i ever saw running
Not to many Pre-War-cars left over here ....
I DO LIKE THE KINK Change will be priority : c :rolleyes:

I have thisRadius-ball using the rubber-ball
I do not need springs anymore??
How strong to tighten nuts?
Ball still should be able to move inside ??

Effects of full floating-engine?
Did anyone ever change back to any reason??

Head is retightened allready.
Engine went about :
15 hours on a bench (electrical driven) and about
15 hours on a bench (under own power)

Lots of oil-pressure now :cool:
Feeding the inserts through the drilled crankshaft and feeding
the camshaft on its front (would you in US do that too??)
My Engine-Guru stated that the engine looked (before rebuilding it)
somewhat dry in that area and he didnt like....
He stated that some Splash-engines will splash less than others :confused:
Might have changed after 80 years or so...

Hopefully i will need 20 years to tell you whether that was a good idea.

Guru said he did his own A 20 years ago and engine still is powerfull...
Got to trust him.

Would be great to have pre-drilled holes in the counterbalanced crankshafts
Just drill throug surface (in case you need the oil-lines), and thats it...

How do you feed inserts??

Deiner motor ist viele schoen! ( I think that's correct?) Anyway, Very nice! So many distractions come along while we're working, Phone rings, dog barks, who knows! We sometimes forget to tighten something. It can be really bad when you're working on an airplane. It happens all the time. Just check, check, and recheck! (But don't take too long)
