1936 Door HINGE Interchange
 

A friend of mine has a '36 3W coupe he's restoring and needs both driver side & passenger side door hinges (not the door themselves). I checked the Ford 'bible', Hollander's manual and searched the Ford Barn old posts, but couldn't find and info on a hinge interchange.

I would guess '35 & '36 3w coupe (and maybe the 5w coupes?) door hinges interchange, but do any other models interchange with the coupes??

I would have just emailed Don Rogers for an answer, but thought there may be others who might be interested.

Bob, I checked with my 1935 and 36 body books and am pleased to report that the front door hinges for the Tudor, Fordor, Coupe, Conv. Sedan and Cabriolet are the same.

The basic shape of the hinges are the same for 1935-1940. Mounting holes differ 1935-36 Closed and convertible, 1935-36 Roadster and phaeton, 1937-40. The length of the hinge may differ also. The uppers without mount holes have the same shape right and left, the lower are a different style, but again without mount holes the same shape right and left.


We make reproductions without mounting holes (hinge pin is drilled). Currently we are transitioning from bronze to steel so right now it is mix and match.


If possible (specifically for closed and convertible), save the half of the hinge on the door as they were attached with rivets and often spot welds. It is a challenge to remove them without damaging the door, but the true adventure begins in trying to figure how to mount them and miss the window channels.
