A Toe-out question.....

Is there any logical reason someone would toe-out a Model A 1/4"?

I corrected it to be 1/8" toe-in but got to wondering if someone had a reason to do this. (I have not road tested the car yet since adjusting the toe).

The car did handle a little squirrely toed out, but not too bad. She does have a lot of slop in a kingpin and I got to wondering if this was someone's trick to compensate for that play.

Appreciate any thoughts.

Correct toe-in is about 1/32-1/16th inch. Toe-out will cause premature tire wear and bad handling.

Maybe for a more exciting ride?

The only logical reason is they didnt know any better. I bought a Jeep for my wife and the toe was 1 1/4" out. You want to talk about an exciting ride.

Thanks - it did make it interesting hitting bumps. Exciting is a good word - just never sure which way she was going to try and go next:eek:

I have 2 model a's. One I purchased as a driver while I did a ground up on my other. I just bought an antique wheel alignment tool. While I was setting the toe on the restoration, I put the tool on the driver, I was almost 1/2 inch toe out. No issues driving, handles great, turns on a dime; no tire wear.

You will need to take of any worn axle and steering linkage parts before adjusting toe in, toe in is the very last adjustment done to any front end.

Mine was set at 3/4" toe-in. Wiped out the front tires in about 1500 miles.

I'm with you Brian. I need to drive the car to a couple family events and a local show, then I can pull the front spindles to put in new king pins and bushings.

Adjusted the toe in just to make it a little more stable for now, but the king pin slop will still be with me.
