ZDDP oil additive

I called C&G Ford Parts to purchase ZDDP for my Coupe's winter oil change.
They said it is no longer on the market.
Any ideas/suggestions?

It's still "on the market". Order it from somewhere else. Ebay, Jegs, Summit, Amazon,

I have been using Marvel Mystery's classic car oil. It has Zinc in it and formulated for antique cars. Right now on their site they are buy 2 get one free, so I stocked up heavily last week

Re: ZDDP oil additive

With the low valve spring pressure the stock flatheads have, any currently available motor oil with a valid API rating has enough zinc. If you are still worried about the zinc content. any name brand oil with a "50" in the weight has more than enough zinc in it for even the highest valve spring pressures. I currently run Mobil 1 15-50 in the hemi in my race car with an Engle roller tappet cam that has dual springs with no problems for the last 25 years.

To make along story short, guys with stock flatheads don't need to worry about zinc as long as you use any commonly available API-rated oil.

Just don't use non-detergent.

STP in the blue bottle, has it on the label. I what I use. 8 ba with early heads in a 40, and a French block in a 34. Easy to find, problem solved.

Been using any regular oil for 25 years in mine. Whatever is on sale. No extra ZDDP needed.

Sometimes the xtra additive clashes with the original oils additive packaging and you end up with something less suited for the use

This is an excellent point.

I will repeat, any currently available oil with a valid automotive API rating is more than sufficient for a stock flathead just as it comes out of the bottle.

Re: ZDDP oil additive

I am running a higher lift cam and Zephyr valve springs, so I feel more comfortable with more zinc than regular API oil. My solution: one quart of Valvoline TR1 racing oil for the zinc, three quarts of any good API oil for the detergent, and a pint of Marvel Mystery Oil because every flathead guru I have ever known says it works.

  • Real ZDDP Zinc, Not a Substitute
  • Increases Engine Life
  • Makes Newer Oils Work in Older Engines
  • Protecting Engines Since 1921
  • Rislone Hy-per Lube Engine Oil ZDDP Supplement is a petroleum oil performance supplement “booster” containing high levels of ZDDP (zinc dialkyldithiophosphate) Zinc and Phosphorus additives along with mixed esters to help better protect internal engine components including pistons, flat tappet camshafts, lifters and the valvetrain. This is especially important at engine start up, when most wear is done. That is why they say one of the worst things you can do is start your engine.

You don't need the ZDDP.
