Running board anti squeak. Was there an anti squeak used between the running board bracket and the running board?
If there was, what was used? |
Re: Running board anti squeak. Bick,
No there wasn't...at least not according to any PPL's that I have. Pluck |
Re: Running board anti squeak. Cheers Pluck.

Re: Running board anti squeak. Are you sure it’s not the fenders making the noise?

Re: Running board anti squeak. On page 13-13 Revised 2016 RGJG, in the italicised comments at the very end of the running board section, it mentions an anti- squeak webbing used between the running board and bracket, and I quote, "on some vehicles".
Not terribly helpful. Optional? |
Re: Running board anti squeak. Lots of us have found anti squeek in the form of friction tape on top of the brackets. Get your old hockey sticks and you may find a roll. Also in the groove thr RB fits in. I use two pieces of the tape overlapping on top of the brackets. Used on my 2 FP vehicles and will again on my 3rd.

Re: Running board anti squeak. 2 Attachment(s)
The running board brackets on my unrestored Vicky have a piece of material between them and the running boards. It could be mohair seat fabric.

Re: Running board anti squeak. Couple of great photos Bill, thank you for sharing.

Re: Running board anti squeak. Both of my 1931 A's had a black cloth anti-squeak material between the running boards and their brackets.

Re: Running board anti squeak. Don't know if it's "original" but Brattons has what they refer to as running board anti-squeek. Chap

Re: Running board anti squeak. Wouldn't that tend to hold moisture and encourage rust?

Re: Running board anti squeak. Model A's don't leak oil they just mark their territory.
now that's one I shan't forget Bick. |
Re: Running board anti squeak. Great point, all of the anti-squeak that I have encountered (frequently between metal and wood) was friction-tape consistency BUT was saturated with some tar-like substance. I may experiment with butyl caulk in some applications I need to address.
One of the more interesting places I found this anti-squeak was as a bridge, placed against the glass rear window of sedans, across the gap in the rubber gasket that surrounds the rear glass. I doubt a better seal could be devised today. |
