The one I use is from Whitney.

Whitney Co., Inc., E. J. 529 S. Raymond Ave., Fullerton, Ca 714-773-1611

They are not cheap.

How reliable has your unit been?
Any issues?
Thanks

For what is worth I would run a 2 brush generator out of the late thirties. Spend the time to find a good shop to rebuild it right.

I think Power Master makes one also, but it may be 12 volt only.

Re: 34 stock looking alternator

Don't think that Powermaster has the pulley to mount the fan.

Re: 34 stock looking alternator

I've got the Whitney and have been running it for 18 months with no problems . Is a small alternator to fit in the casing but still pumps out 7.2 Volts no problems on my 6V system.

They are not cheap and wait was 4 months from order to delivery -You sent them your original generator and they use the face plate and pulley from this the rest is discarded. They also modify the cut out so it is a straight pass through.

I like mine it looks authentic to 99% of people (I don't think it would fool a fine point judge ) and gives me plenty of power -Karl

I have not run one enough miles to comment on reliable, but I have always heard good things.

I've been running a Whitney conversion for 10+ years with no problems.

Isn't the casing a little larger that a stock generator? Dave/Green Bay

I have a Whitney 12V conversion. I notice it doesn’t charge at idle. It starts charging at about 1,000 rpm.

His housing is the same size but made from billet aluminum. He only uses the front plate/bracket ,pulley and end plate from the orig gen.I always sent him a 39 std gen since I did not want the cutout. He also preferred the 38-39 pulley as the vanes cooled best.

Belive that is the Powermaster, not the Whitney.

Whitney uses a stock generator housing. Very personable and talented. I would recommend them.

Can someone post a picture of the Whitney Generator/Alternator installed on a '34 engine?....

It would look the same as the original, because it is the original on the outside. All of the modifications are internal. You send your unit to them and they use your front and rear plates. They turn an aluminum tube to replace the original case. The new center tube looks the same as the original case. You can request it to be wired as a one wire hook up, or similar to the original wiring connections. The painted new center does look smoother than the originals and does not have the connectors than hold the field coils.

Again, can someone post a picture or pictures of the Whitney Generator/Alternator installed on a '34 engine?....

Think that's typical of one-wire alternators.

Yes Dave, the center casing is just slightly larger in diameter as compared to original. Other than that, it looks identical to the original generator, including a non operative cutout mounted on top.

Re: 34 stock looking alternator

If you want a 6 volt alternator to charge at idle you need a
24 volt stator and you can use the large stock Ford pulley. I
used an adjustable voltage regulator with a small hole in the
rear cover plate so I can set the voltage at idle. I made 7 of
them for my cars and never had any problems. Once you had
an alternator you wouldn't want to go back to a gen. G.M.

Re: 34 stock looking alternator

I have one from Powermaster on my 34 pickup and it works fine. It is a bit bigger in Diamater and I had to make the pulley fit the shaft in order to use the original one. I believe they now have fan pullies available. take the cutout apart and solder the points closed so the juice goes straight thru.

It looks like the original, because it is the original except for the center case. There are several photos on their web page (post #2 has a link). I can post a photo of one setting on an engine tomorrow.

It would look exactly like the original generator used in production on whatever year vehicle you are interested in, because the alternator is installed inside the original generator housing, except for the center casing which machined from aluminum, and is just slightly larger in diameteI as compared to original.

......and I could post pictures of my original generators tomorrow that would look identical to a Whitney alternator conversation :) :D

Here are some photos of a Whitney alternator I current have setting on an engine. It is a late 40s Generator conversion. Whitney will build them like you want them, I wanted the original three wire style. Others have commented on the case being slightly larger in diameter, don't believe that is the case in the ones I have dealt with. Not sure how clear it is in the photos, but the case is slightly smaller in diameter than the original ends. BUT, I have not measured the two side by side.
