1928 60-A 2-Window Fordor Sedan "air vents"......
 

The 1928 60-A 2-Window Fordor Sedan originally came with "air vents" on the lower cowl section when it first came into production about May 1928.

My question is did it come with vents on both sides...or vents on either the right or the left side?

These vents were deleted about August 1928.

The one that I had was only on the drivers side . I think that the vent was only used on the left side of the cowl . I think that the cowl vent was discontinued because heat from the hood side vents would enter the cab of the car .

My Dad bought a new 1928 Fordor in early September 1928 from the Ford dealer in our area.. It had a ventilator on the drivers side only, and I remember it clearly.

When I was in Chickasha several years ago for the pre war I stopped by a collectors yard he had either a 30 or 31 coupe with a vent door in each cowl. It was not a cobbled cowl but appeared to be factory as it looked just like the sedan left side structure on the fordor. Who knows what went on back then. Philip

There was a 400-A for sale (on eBay IIRC) a while back. It had a driver side vent that looked factory, but it was documented to have come from a 60-A.

Along with the cowl vent the early-mid 28's had a different straight dash without a windshield vent.

The cowl vent on the 60-A was used for 4 months according to Marco.

Steve check the book "Henrys Lady" or one of the other "A" books. There is a note about that vent somewhere mentioning it was only on the driver side.

Interesting side note.


Sometime in early 1928 Ford approached the prestigious LeBaron to design and build a proto-type Town Car body. LeBaron were considered car body design leaders.


The surviving proto-type TC body had a right side cowl vent in addition to a cowl band and cowl lamps...all 'firsts' to appear on a Ford in 1928.


Production of the Town Car bodies went to Briggs with their larger capacity.


I wonder who had the later idea by re-design the front driver's compartment to create a ForDor for the 'masses' ??
