Distributor paint

The exterior of the distributor is semi-gloss black. Does the inside get painted or left natural?

Don't over paint the distributor because it will play havoc with your ability to generate a proper spark at the points.

Bottom of the distributor that sits on the head, and the ignition cable threaded hole should be paint free/clean. They are major ground paths for the points. Also where the lower ignition plate screws to the distributor body.
Speaking from experience with a vendor rebuilt distributor.

I paint the inside of the distributor when restoring one to prevent it from rusting. However, when painting a distributor both the inside and the outside should be carefully masked to prevent painting surfaces that are important for grounding purposes. The attached article is how I go about it.
