Head Nut - Is this a cap?
 

Do you think these chrome objects are actually head nuts or some kind of cap covering the original nuts? They don't seem to want to pop off.....Attachment 378356

Look like chromed acorn nuts, for dress-up. So long as the head doesn't go floating off into outer space, I guess they're ok.

I was going to put Stainless acorn nuts on my engine but the engine builder wouldn't do it. He told me the Stainless wasn't near as strong as plain steel. So I guess I will be using chrome covers on my nuts.

If they are acorn nuts I highly recommend you chuck them. There is no way you can tell if each stud has the proper torque applied. A nut could be bottoming out on its stud instead of compressing the head.

I ‘m using ARP studs with stainless steel acorn nuts without any issues on my Brumfield super head.

If you insist on using them then measure the distance above the head the stud sticks out and the room in the nut for the stud.

Speedway Motors carries the nut covers which are a flathead V8 dress-up item.

Do it the cheapskate way, wrap them with aluminum foil. LOL

If'n a 11/16" wrench is too small to fit then they're the chrome covers, like these:

I use the dress up type 11/16 head nut covers that are offered by most model A parts venders with no problem . the head nut covers closely resembles the Packard acorn head nuts that were often used by hot rodders back in the day. The nut covers are way cheaper than the Packard type acorn nuts and get the job done for me. I figure if I like the look , thats all that matters for me .
