My "new" 1931 Phaeton

3 Attachment(s)
I just got this 1931 standard Phaeton from a good family friend,
I've always loved the looks of the standard Phaeton,
I'm not going to do a fancy restoration, just make it a somewhat more "presentable" driver that someone would've had as a family hauler back in the day.

Welcome to the Phaeton collective... I believe we're in the minority!

I've said it before and I will say it again, "If you are going to buy an old car, it should be a 4-door convertible. "

I absolutely love it. I have a nice deluxe roadster but my goal is to have a phaeton.

In the minority? I think that depends where you are. Phaetons are the most common here.
That car is magnificent just as it is. The car may be blue but I am green!
BTW, No Model As at all came to Australia in 1931.

How exactly is the word officially pronounced? It's not a common word, atleast around my area and I've heard it said several different ways. Ways I had no idea someone wouldn't try to pronounce it.

(Fae-ton), (fea-ting) and I can't remember how the guy said it the last time I heard it but I believe it was (fae-eh-ti-on), said slowly and each syllable pronounced distinctly. I believe my first example is correct but not sure.

Oh and I really like you car, seems like something you can have fun in and not worry about scratches or kids crawling around on it. Since you're in California I'd have to wear a Jed Clampit hat while driving. If you're a younger fellow maybe a Jethro hat. Get some photos of that thing next to a cement pond. :)

I generally prefer a nicely restored antique car, but that one looks just about too good to mess with. I see a nice supra in the background also!

They were called an "A Model tourer" here. Much nicer. None of this upper class horse and buggy stuff.

"Phaeton" rhymes with "Peyton"

According to Merriam-Webster, it's fay-uh-ton.

In England I finished a restoration on a 28 phaeton. It had started life as a tudor but that body was too far gone so I installed an ex Uruguay phaeton body. I told our DVLA (Driver Vehicle Licencing Authority) that the replacement body was a phaeton but the title came back as a tourer !!! No phaetons allowed on the Queens Highway !!!

John in the wettest November ever Suffolk County England .

If it could talk it looks like it would have a lot of stories to tell. Love the "patina". Perhaps something you would see during the Depression, kinda Grapes of Wrath.
