1934 Phaeton Top Iron Hardware 6 Attachment(s)
It's time to get my old top irons re-chromed, which will require me to take them all apart. Does anyone have a source for all the various studs and rivets that the irons use?

You have a massive job in front of you dismantling your Top Irons for Chrome Plating. This photo is of my Australian 1934 Ford Phaeton Top Irons. Notice that they are just painted and not Chromed - what a bonus. |

Re: 1934 Phaeton Top Iron Hardware If the rivets are a 9/32 diameter, truss head I may be able to help (but not cheaply).
I do strongly recommend you consider doing one side at a time, that way you have a fully functional pattern to use when you re-assemble them. One part reversed RH to LH or installed backwards can mess up your whole month. |
Re: 1934 Phaeton Top Iron Hardware I don't recall anyone having offered a kit of custom rivets for the '33-'34 phaeton top iron. If the original rivets are a standard diameter, you can obtain stainless rivers from McMaster-Carr and others. If not a standard diameter, you can buy oversize rivets and turn down the body and heads to match the originals.
I second Karl's advice about only dismantling, plating, and reassembling one side at a time. To do otherwise is a risk not worth taking. It's a big job from beginning to end. |
Re: 1934 Phaeton Top Iron Hardware Qual Krom in Erie, PA disassembled, plated, and reassembled the top irons on my '36 phaeton, one side at a time, with correct rivets. The irons were ready to install.
