64 Galaxie adding sound deadening material
 

Just removed compete interior of car and of course taking care of some rust issues. Now need to sound deaden the floor pan which is quite large nearly 40 sq ft. Any recommendations that won't break the bank.

Go over to the HAMB and search "peel and seal". You don't need to be a member. You'll find whole threads on a variety of products, effects, etc. Peel and seal is a roof patching product from a big box hardware store. All worth a look.

They talk about stopping drumming, foil for heat, etc.

I've used a variety of products over the years, mostly commercial, from lead impregnated rubber in motor homes, to rubber insulation for industrial tanks. Whatever you use, a good roller for Formica work really helps lay it down. Having done Formica work in the old days I had the rollers.

After that I use cheap foam, then carpet. Makes an amazing difference in sound and heat.

When laying down any of the peal and stick stuff use a heat gun to warm it up. Doing that really makes it stick down well. I have used a mastic from McMaster Carr, put down with a roller and the heat gun followed with sticky duct insulation from Lowes and aluminum tap to seal it all up..

The most sound I notice coming into cabin of car is from wheel houses and firewalls if weather strips are in good shape. Thick carpet padding does great.

Thanks for that great info. I'm going to be redoing my '65 Thunderbird interior, and the factory replica sound insulation from Mac's will cost hundreds of dollars, and that's not including the jute underlay for the carpet.

I used Fat Mat on my floor, 1/2 the price of Dyna Mat and easy to work with.

I used EZ Cool on the roof, the vertical panels, firewall, and floor.

Fat mat or dynamat work great. Also 1/2" jute auto carpet underlay really cuts sound down
