Generator thrown solder

You probably have heard of the Model A generator getting too hot and actually melting the solder on the armature. If you haven't seen it yet, here are two photos of what happens. On the first photo there is a silver colored line on the inside of the case just above the field coils and on the edge of the cut away openings. That is the where the melted solder from the hot, spinning armature landed. In the second photo it shows the voids where the solder used to be holding the wires to the commutator bars.

Re: Generator thrown solder

Have heard of this happening on late '50s cars, which were capable of sustained high speeds on the new interstate highways of the day.

My brothers threw its solder back in 1970 or so.

He did a quick temp repair soldering back and putting a diode in a cut out. He was like 15 years old at the time.

Still on his car. He runs highway speeds and uses halogen head lamp bulbs (the direct replacment type).
