When the model a was new did Ford offer a warranty of any kind?

I recall someone posting a picture of a bill of sale were it was stated 90 days or 1500 miles warranty on everything except tires, glass, bulbs and possibly a few other things.

Not sure of the exact length of time . . . . . . . but I am pretty sure it has expired. Let me know if I am wrong . . . . .

Since this topic needs a little more controversy added being as Ahooga is down ( :D ), so why do you feel the warranty by automkaers is now 400% more than what they were with the Model-A when it was new? So what happened that made the automakers feel they needed to raise the bar?? (50 years ago it was 12 mo/12,000 miles.)

50 years ago the imports hit with great dealer service and a warranty that made US manufacturers sit up and take notice. And don't forget that the Japanese government subsidized their auto industry.

remember not long ago when EVERYONE traded their car in by 100,000 miles
now most are running to 200,000 or better.

After WW-2, G.M. sent folks to Japan, to teach them how to make GOOD cars! Their early Toyopets were as crappy as YUGOS!:eek:
I "think" they were the forerunners of the TOYOTA???

Bill is correct. And the U.S. automakers after the War had a 'you'll take what we build and like it' mentality there was really no competition. Especially from GM they got REAL conceited.

Henry Ford was all about competition when he was alive. He believed that a much better product would evolve, with competition.Henry Ford II invited Japanese automakers in to tour the Rouge, they took notes, pictures, and went back and copied what Ford had done.

Cars today are much better than they were even back as close as the '90's, all across the board, American and Japanese. I'm not sure really how much more they can do. I suppose developing the Tesla and pushing electric cars, but the Germans feel that hydrogen powered cars are the future. Stay tuned should be interesting!

My how times have changed.
OLD people may remember a time (yes, it was a looong time ago) when "Jap" products were seen as (and often were) "Cheap Jap Junk".
Now the 'Jap' has morphed into "Japanese". AND the 'Cheap Jap Junk' has been replace by the standard by which all QUALITY is measured.
It is a bit ironic that the two greatest enemies of freedom (Germany along with Japan), and the epitome of hateful aggression - have become the two greatest hallmarks of both freedom and of quality.
The world can thank America's MARSHAL PLAN for much of that remarkable reversal. Now those two enemies are amongst our closest allies.
And incidentally - the Japanese in particular - the American consumer's greatest ally !
Which brings us back to the essence of this post - American products now have stronger warranties BECAUSE of the high quality of Japanese products. Thank you Japan, et.al.

I DO hope this last comment will encourage some of you to actually launch an investigation into WHO was George C. Marshal; and his plan to rebuild the devastated countries of WW11. His impact on our world of today, was ENORMOUS !

I think it was Hyundai Elantra I wanna say 1999-2002 era was the first to have the 10 year 100,000 mile warranty. Go back 5-10 years before that and they were utter junk in all aspects. Now they are some of the most reliable cars out there. Idunno I still think US automakers have some bad warranties especially for the cost of vehicles nowadays. What are they? 3yr/36kmiles? Then power train is a 5yr 100k that doesn't cover much.

one thing I wonder even 40 years ago which most of you can answer: When a car broke under warranty was it as much of a pain to get fixed right vs the way some dealers handle things today? We've had some bad luck with dealers around here where our cars with factory warranties the dealers dont want to fix or cant seem to fix it the first few times( my moms 2014 ford escape has been in the shop about 12 times now, at least 9of them for the same problem and it needs to go back again for the same friggin problem... Going to look at IL lemon laws..)

While the above statements are true, increasing the warranty had nothing to do with quality. It is all about selling cars. More people will by if a longer warranty is included.

Doug, I was a history major in school my comment was strictly tongue-in-cheek:D Yes, we paid out billions and billions of dollars rebuilding what we blew up. On top of that, the billions of dollars that nobody paid us back for (except Finland I believe they were the only ones good for their debts) Russia was the worst offender here. Britain was bankrupted hell WWII cost the U.S. in 2016 dollars 4.5 trillion dollars.
