64 Galaxie - raise front seat
 

I find the front seat seating position to be too low especially with the 17" steering wheel. Is there a preferred method for raising the seat such as putting a spacer between the track and floor pan. I am thinking it could be 1/2-3/4 inch thick aluminum or steel stock running the full length of both tracks and using longer bolts.

I've raised and tilted seats with blocks under the track. I used oak, kiln dried, from the lumber store. Easier to deal with than aluminum with the tools I had.

Good idea on the oak. My wife has to use a pillow when she drives the 63, and it is a bit low for me too. Now...to find some oak.

I used 2x4 scrap. No need to over-build a spacer.

I've raised seats in two cars. Used four aluminum pieces two or three inches long, but can see where oak pieces would work good. If using wood, use oak, maple or other hardwood.

When I started driving my '55 in 1972, I stood 5'-0" tall back then, so I threw a couple of yellow-pages phone books on the seat and sat on them. 3/4" spacers wouldn't have helped me much.

I'd use aluminum, since I have a bunch of it and machine tools. Oak would do, just make it somewhat oversize, maybe a 1/2 inch on a side so it would be stronger and spread out the load better, round the edges on a sander too.

I need to make my seat go back more so my left leg on the clutch is not so cramped. I'd have to make up tabs for that.
