control rods, spark and gas stuck

31 roadster---i read all old posts on this and one person said he was able to free up rods by penetrating oil---any ideas on how to get oil into rod channels? i thought about putting in a few drill holes for oil but not sure where to place them or any other ideas
thank you

Just keep spraying penetrating oil on the top bushing and lower end, then force it to move after a day or so. Slowly it will keep getting better. Don't use WD-40, as that can swell pot metal.

Re: control rods, spark and gas stuck

Are they stuck at the top or the bottom? You can tell by trying to move the lever. If you get NO movement, they are stuck at the top, if you get a little, the rod is twisting and they are stuck at the bottom. In the first case, do as Tom said, in the second, do as Tom said and you might help things by giving the tube a tap or two with a hammer while someone puts a little pressure on the lever. As soon as there is any movement, you've won. Keep moving it back and forth while adding lubricant and it will come good.
Let us know how you go!

Those rods are very strong in torsion. You can horse on them pretty good. It will come out.
