1932 Dash Light Switch , Help
 

Does anyone know the proper way to remove the bakalite/plastic switch knob from the dash light switch on the insterment panel ???? I'm trying to move the switch from one panel to another better one.
It appears the knob needs to be removed so the unit can slide out the back of the panel. I've tried carefully putting 4" vice grips on the brass stem and unscrewing the knob by hand,ccw of course.
I have a small cotton web strap wrench I could put around the knob and applying pressure carefully- the knob is in beautiful condition and I don't want to damage it.
I'm thinking next about dipping the knob in boiling water to see if it would expand enough to unscrew. I'm assuming it's threaded on as many push/pull knobs are.

The '32 choke knob I tried to remove from a rusted dash was not threaded on, but was either press fit or molded over the shaft. I broke it trying to remove it.

If it is an original dash light switch and knob, the knob is threaded (unlike the choke, throttle, four-cylinder starter switch cable knobs) and should be easily removable. The threads are conventional clockwise to tighten, counter-clockwise to loosen. Yours is the first I've heard of or owned that posed such a challenge. Perhaps someone got tired of it being loose and used Loctite on the threads.

While I have not had to replace any knobs, I've heard that the old ones can be removed by heating up the knob (only) in boiling water. With the glues available today, I assume that would be the way to go with attaching the replacement knobs.

Thank you for this advice. It's neat to be able to search previous threads for answers. I undid the knob from the dash light switch relatively easily once I knew what to do.
