Did you mean to say "between distributor and camshaft"? If so, I think corvettes post on heavy grease is good. I've also made up a couple alignment studs, with straight blade screw driver slots cut in the end that sticks out, that locate in two of the top threaded distributor bolt holes in timing gear cover. These help locate the distributor in place, while turning the rotor to lock the distributor shaft tang in the camshaft slot. Then install the third distributor bolt and remove one stud (with a short flat blade screwdriver) at a time and replace with distributor bolts.
A caution on some of the camshaft to distributor shaft spacers/adaptors. Some on the market are so poorly made that they will allow the distributor to lock in 180° out of sinc, and actually allow the distributor shaft to turn without breaking anything. This has been reported a couple times here on this forum.
