Canadian pickup # CAO 271

How rare is a Feb. 1928 pickup made in Ontario Canada frame number CAO 271. It doesn't have the original engine.

According to the JS/RG CAO 271 was the last half of October, 1930?

I had seen that in the Judging Standards but it has the early braking system with the left hand emergency brake handle. I was wondering if the "0" was part of the frame number and not the engine number?

I don't think Ford used zero's in the numbering system that way. Is there a chance the O is a 8?

Canadian Model A's used a completely different number system than the American Plants. What you see as a zero is actually the letter O.
As to the engine number being from a late 30 in a early 28. It was propably a rebuilt engine that was in the system and back then nobody cared much about the engine number matching the year for the vehicle. It was more of an issue of keeping the vehicle on the road and running.

Can you share an image of the number, Ak29?

If by chance it is CA8271, it could be from May 1928.

and that would be very early for Canada.

Trying to recall when Canada introduced the pickup?

It's not my pickup but I might be able to look at the number closer on Saturday.

I understand that Canadian Model A engines had "CA" prefixes for local sale and for export, they used 3 letters. My 1929 engine number starts with "CAQ".
I'm sure others will chime in here if I'm wrong.
CAO seems right to me but I don't know when that would have been produced. Someone here listed the Canadian letter series and dates some time ago. I just found the thread! Look at post #9

The two letter CA was used from the beginning through Aug 29'. Three letters such as your CAQ started Sept 1929. It's all in the RG/JS Canadian Supplement. I look forward to an image of what Ak29 posted.

Re: Canadian pickup # CAO 271

The guy looked closer at his frame number and the 0 is really a 3 so the number is CA3271 that would mean that the frame was stamped in early April in 1928. I looked in the Judging Standards and it said that the closed cab pickup didn't come out until June of 1928. What I'm wondering now is would Canada have gotten the pickup before the U.S. or was the truck put together in June or later? And is there any way to tell how many more trucks were made before this one?

Another thing I was wondering where exactly would the manufacturing date of the body be stamped on the left firewall?

Re: Canadian pickup # CAO 271

I thought I'd heard that Canadian cars didn't have either the date stamped on the upper left firewall or the serial number on the frame as U.S. ones did - i.e. it was only on the engine (?).

Re: Canadian pickup # CAO 271

According to the JS Canadian Supplement, engines and frames were stamped with the matching numbers through late 1928. Canada did not produce the 28-29' 82-A closed cab pickup (only the open 76-A), but started with the 82-B closed cab for 1930-31. Is this vehicle an open or closed cab?

Another feature to look for is the body number on the front seat sill passenger side.
