31 Truck???

2 Attachment(s)
I have the opportunity to purchase this truck. I know nothing at all about model A's and would like some opinions. Owner says it has original motor and ran couple of years ago. These are the only two photos he had at the moment. I did a quick google search and looked at a lot of pictures, but I did not find one that looked like this.

Did the truck come with a cab?

Did it come with metal bed?

Thank you,

Looks like something cut down to use around a farm.

I believe that is what we call, in the South-East US anyway, a 'skindown'. The body of another model was cut up to build a usable 'truck'. Do a Google Image search for what an un-touched Model A truck should look like....

Good Luck!

If you know nothing about Model A's I would hate to see you start with that one. The radiator shell is '31 and probably most of the other stuff. The front bumper is '28-'29. Most of the body is missing and the bed are missing. I would recommend you join a Model A club and also attend a few swap meets and shows before you start spending money. Good luck.

If you're into doing your own work and wanting to learn as you go, I think this may be an excellent way to enter the Model A world. Getting it running, steering and stopping will teach you Model A repair at low cost. Get the usual books and grab a wrench! For the price of a gasket set and rings you likely can have a decent running engine. Clean, lube and adjust the brakes and just replace what is needed. Someone in a local club may have used tires. At first, aim for a doodlebug type rig to cruise around the yard and neighborhood. A hitch and Slow Moving Vehicle sign should qualify it as a tractor. For a few hundred dollars you will have a fun rig that will get a lot of attention at shows and parades.

I farm part time so I do all my own repair work. It does have a unique look, but price tag is $3k. I can't see and inspect with my own eyes for another week when the owner gets back.

I was considering it for later on in life when I finish my current project which at the rate I'm going is good for another 5 years.

Everything looks rusted or worn out. That would make it a very bad vehicle to start with. Does it come with a current title, if not that would be a very big reason to avoid it (in California anyway, Alabama may be a lot easier). If it has a title it might tell you that it started life as some other body style.

If it runs it might be worth 3000 dollars. If not I won’t give more than 1000 for it.

No horn, take $2.00 off. I vote $375.00

Fire damage?

The grille looks like it might have been a truck

Re: 31 Truck???

I was also wondering if the look is from fire damage. $3,000 is crazy, and about 10 times what I think it's worth. If the seller installs a new battery and gas and gets it running, the price will go up, but as it sets, it looks really tough to me.
