1940 Ford scuff plates:

I got a new pair of scuff plates for the floor board on my 40 two door sedan today.Does anyone have any pictures of how they looked installed?I noticed one end is notched out.Does this go to front or rear?How is the rubber for door suppose to work since it looks way to wide.The ones I took off were bent up and looked different from the new ones that came from DC.Screws were sent with them but I will spend a little more and go get stainless ones.

Here's a few photos that may help. This is driver side on a coupe. Floor board bolts are not OEM correct. Not sure if Henry used stainless screws for the scuff plates. "Kube" is the fellow to ask.

Plus a few more. The "rounded nose" configuration goes toward the front of car.
Look carefully at first photo and you can see where the notched cut is located just about even with the the rear of the door even with the windlace.

just put some new ones on the '39. The rubber seemed way to thick at first and it was tough to close the door but it eventually compressed and now it is providing a nice seal.

When I purchase a reproduction set, I bind the rubber over as soon as I receive them. When I am ready to install, typically six to ten months, the rubber has found a new "memory" and fits well.

Just back in from the garage, so the rubber just hangs down and the door closes against it.

Trim the rubber to fit door jambs? I seem to have about a inch extra rubber on each end.

If you bought the rubber separate from the sill plates the vendor may have supplied a little extra rubber so you won't be caught short. If you bought the sill plates with the rubber already installed I would think they are "correct" as is, but you never know. Make sure your windlace is in properly and then do some "trial fitting" before you make any cuts. Don't be in a hurry. Also, the door pushes against the rubber to seal the big air space at boor bottom.

Yes, you will have to trim the excess from each end. It should be the length of the opening - no more.

And I would ad that you should trim the ends after you install them.

I suppose that's one way of doing it. I prefer to measure carefully and trim them prior to installation. Just seems I am able to get a neater trim that way.
