52 6 cyl automatic behind 239 flathead I am thinking of puting an automatic that I have in a 1952 OHV 6 cylinder Ranch Wagon in a 1951 with an 8 BA. Does anyone know if the 52 auto, flex plate, etc on the OHV 6 cyl will bolt up to the 8 BA? Thanks for any advice. Joe

Re: 52 6 cyl automatic behind 239 flathead If my memory serves me correctly,;) there is a difference in the crankshaft back end on an 8BA fitted with a Ford-O-Matic, not sure you'll be able to install the automatic on an 8BA that didn't have one from the factory...:confused:

Re: 52 6 cyl automatic behind 239 flathead I think the 215 6-cylinder had a differnt bell housing bolt pattern than the 8BA family of engines. I'm not certain but you might be able to find an 8BA pattern bell from a Ford-O-Matic or Merc-O-Matic V8 installation and swap it on the main housing of your 6-cylinder trans. Some 1951 and most all 52 & later 8BA family of engines had the deeper recess in the crank needed for the auto trans but earlier ones have to be machined to fit.
