transmission shifting need advice

when cold first 4 or 5 miles shifts with out grinding gears, then gets
very difficult to shift with out grinding. from a dead stop to first is
never a problem. 2nd to 3rd even if you coast for a while then shift
does not help.. using fresh oil macs 600.

I doubt the trans even gets hot in a few miles..

any ideas as to fix or ???? or a different oil mix

The oil does thin out in a few miles. Are you double clutching? I find that works better than trying to wait the exact time before shifting up without double clutching.

Hi Fredski,

Did you check your clutch free play "with":

A. The floor mats or carpets; & with,

B. Carpet cushion (if any) below same, & with,

C. A possible rubber pad on your clutch pedal.

All of these added items has an effect on clutch free play "if" clutch free play was set with an uncovered wood floor board, & an uncovered clutch pedal.

Never a bad idea to remove the cover plate to observe the throw out bearing with & without the clutch pedal depressed to experience what is happening below.

Hope this helps.

What Tom says, and, just slowing down taking your time and you'll feel your way into the next gear.
How are the down shifts doing ?
I'm assuming you have the proper free-play and the clutch linkage and shift lever/tower are OK.

down shifts also a problem . I do always double clutch.

again seems okay first few miles then shifting is grinding

Re: transmission shifting need advice

what speeds are you shifting?
i find early shifts approx 6 mph and 13 mph, take your time feeling it into the next gear, don't ram it take your time and feed it in . make sure your base idle is low and of course all the obvious proper adjustment etc
