30 Coupe running too rich

I have a rebuilt carb on my car and I'm running much too rich.
I get nothing from either adjustment.
Timing checks out okay and consistent.

Which adjustments are you referring to? Who rebuilt the carb, and what did that entail?

Check float level.

When you rebuilt carb were all passages cleaned out! Jets properly done! and proper gaskets installed.

Re: 30 Coupe running too rich

The carb was purchased from Gaslight and rebuilt by Charlie Armstrong, in Kentucky.
moving the gas adjusting needle has little effect and the idle air screw does nothing. Screw in all the way in and no change.
Float level checks at 5/8" and fuel shut-off valve has been replaced. I also replaced the float valve with a Viton tipped one.

I had a similar issue and checked everything on the car as you did. It turned out to be the GAV. I replaced it...problem solved.

How fast is your idle, when turning the idle air screw. It needs to be 450 rpm, or lower. Otherwise your no longer running on the idle circuit. If running low rpm and no change with idle air screw, then you have a air(vacuum) leak.

Are you using an air filter?

Re: 30 Coupe running too rich

Make sure your choke is getting wide open. If the GAV is full closed and still too rich, then most likely the Main Jet is over sized. Ask your rebuilder what the flow data was on your rebuild? The Main Jet should be 150 to 158 ml/min. (36 in. water column test).

Good afternoon...The Model did not come with an air filter...if you are running one...the car will usually run rich...it takes a change of Jets when rebuilding to compensate for the air filter...Ernie in Arizona

Also, confirm no vacuum leaks.
