1941 pickup with '40 deluxe dash

Hi, there. Picked up a new to me truck that had been sitting hidden in a back yard since the early '60s. The truck has a column shift and a 1940 Deluxe dash in it. I am assuming these are later mods, but some people have been telling me the column shift may be stock. Where there ever any '41 1/2 tons made with an earlier dash and column shift?

Any help is welcome. I am more familiar with the 20-30's mopar world.

Thank you!

Re: 1941 pickup with '40 deluxe dash

Stock 41 with a column shift would have a pickup only column drop and the stock truck dash

If it had a 40 car dash installed , a 40 car column would fit the dash, the steering box is the same car and pickup from 1937 to 1940 (1941 pickup)

To put a car dash in, cut out the truck dash and it matches the windsheild shape, but the ends at the door opening have to be cut to fit.

The pickups never came with a passenger car dash. There may be some indication that some late '41 pickups could have came with the column shift.

1940 dash? I assume it has the Ford script on a flat dash? 41 dash had a plate for script on a raised dash. column shift is possible with a 40 truck and up rare but possible

This modification has been numerous times. It's not for the "backyard" body man but rest assured, it can be done and looks rather cool when completed.

Thank you all for the input. I updated the links on the pictures in the first reply. The dash mod does look like it was from the factory, a very nice install. Thank you Kube for confirming my suspicions that it is a mod. The dash is the curved Deluxe dash, not flat. I put a good pic of it in the links above. Should be doing the glass and brakes this weekend if all goes well.

Clearly a mix of stuff. Deluxe passenger car dash with V8 (standard) steering wheel and knobs.

It looks like a great fixer-upper. Relatively complete and plenty to get your teeth into. Having an enthusiast owner back in the day rather than it being just a work or farm hack may indicate better maintenance and it being more looked after.

Just noticed chrome windshield garnish mouldings too.

I like it a lot.

Mart.

Re: 1941 pickup with '40 deluxe dash

My plan is to keep it as close as I can to it's found condition. Right now I have new windshield and back glass to go in it, along with a complete brake system kit. When I can see and stop I will get to work on the engine. It has the usual rust spots in the lower rear cab corners, half of the metal bed and wood is gone, there is a funky heavy truck bumper welded to the back. Overall, I want to get it mechanically sound, then worry about the looks.

I will be putting vids of the progress up on U-tube and will leave links here if anyone is interested.

Hi Rob I will look forward to the videos.

I don't know if you have seen them but I have made a few videos featuring my 41 pickup. I wish I had had the time to make videos when I was taking it from as found to on the road.

Anyway this is my channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzc...ro40j-vjjZShg/ Catchy name ain't it? Search for martsrods if you like.

Check the truck vids or any that you might fancy a look at.

That's cool. I have 40 standard dash that I have set aside for my pickup.
Thanks for the inspiration.

You can see the passanger car column drop.

Car and pickup used the same windshield and garnish moldings. Scrib a line along the edge of the garnish on the truck dash and thats were you cut it
Then the car dash has a ledge to attach and is sandwiched between the garnish and the can just like it mounts in a passanger car.body. simple job.
Its were the edge meets the door openings has to be trimmed down.

I put a 41 car dash in a 41 pickup. 41 is wider and had to be sliced and diced into 5 pieces to fit.
a short cut would of been to do away with the ashtray and glove box but i wanted both to work.

Re: 1941 pickup with '40 deluxe dash

Any insight into installing a 40 dash in a 39 Deluxe? I have fairly nice 40 dash for my 39 project and realize that with difference in 39 verses 40 windshields, some modification will be needed. Looks like my choices are cutting off about 1 ½ inches on the windshield edge of the dash or fabricating a filler piece where in the 1 ½ “ gap from the A pillar. Curious what is commonly done in this case?
