Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour Epic photo Vic!
Guys, if we know grandpa well enough, it won't be too long until he has some duds with Lincoln Zephyr logos on them! -VT/JeffH |
Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour Jeff, Evan wasn't too happy sitting in the Zephyr...:confused: He must have had Flathead overload by the time we took this photo...;)

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour Vic,
It looks like your belly is pinching the poor little guy's legs against the steering wheel. Slide the seat back and see if he stops crying. LOL John |
Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour What belly???

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour Vic,
You are not an official Granpa until you have changed his diaper. |
Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour John, been there... done that... even gave him a bath in the Kitchen "veggie" sink... :) I guess that makes me official...;)

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour I finally got back in the garage on my "lunch hour" today for some Flathead fun...:) I had removed the water pumps, distributor and fan hub assembly from the LZ and cleaned the oil, etc. off of the timing gear cover and surrounding area so I could do some "touch up" painting with Bill Hirsh engine paint. Now all I can do is wait for the distributor, water pumps and coil to come back so we can get the '39 LZ on the road again.;) I'm looking forward to some nice topless cruising this winter.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour A BIG thank you to John (oldford2) and his wife Barb, for this excellent Christmas gift for my Grandson Evan. :)
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps5804267b.jpg Barb made the "Cigar City Flatheads" T-shirt for our newest member. Thanks again. Vic |
Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour Getting back to playing with Flatheads,:) while I'm waiting for the distributor, water pumps and coil for the '39 LZ to come back, I took the '39 CS for a drive yesterday (the first time out after our return from the Moonshine Festival). She fired up but didn't want to idle without the choke partly closed. I took her for a short drive and, under a load she performed flawlessly but... when stopped, she would die unless I pulled the choke out... I changed the spark plugs and the same symptoms persisted so, I'm thinking the power valve may need to be replaced... at least that's a good place to start. I have several power valves from various "kits" and I'm wondering what # would the carb Gurus suggest? I rebuilt the carb several years ago and I don't remember what size jets are in it. I'd like to know an optimum combination of jets and power valve for the '39. Mostly I drive the car at sea level with the occasional road trip to the North Georgia mountain's. The Flathead is a 221 c.i. stock except for the Red's Headers & Brockman Mellow-Tones. As always, help is appreciated.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour C'mon Vic, humor me here. Why would you change spark plugs when partly pulling the choke out would initially indicate (to me, anyway) an air/fuel ratio malady of some sort, maybe even something as simple as a vacuum leak? What do I know, though? DD

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour Coopman, are you ready...? I had driven the car up to the Moonshine Festival and back, for a total of just under 1,600 miles, the '39 CS likes to run a little rich (not uncommon with Flatheads ;)) so, I make it a practice to change spark plugs regularly, and they were due for a change, (changing fouled plugs is cheaper then replacing burnt valves) and less time consuming then tearing down a carburetor. Now, do you have a viable solution for the situation, or are you just out of wax for the undercarriage and killing time on the computer? Either way, thanks for your continuing interest in my Flathead escapades... One has to wonder if you're not living vicariously...;)
