I drove my '51 F-1 Pickup up to the Hot Rod Breakfast this morning. One of the guys brought a copy of an American Rodder Magazine from 2000. This photo of Don with his '37 'lowboy' was featured.

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

Yesterday we attended the service for our friend Don, who passed away recently. I believe the overall feeling of those in attendance was one of celebration of Don and their relationships with him, which I know is what Don would have wanted. The Priest that had performed the marriage of Don and Karyn also performed the celebration ceremony. Don’s wife asked us to drive our Flatheads, etc. and wear our club T-Shirts, also something I know Don would have wanted. We took a group photo with Don’s wife, in front of Don’s ’47 Pickup. Even though a somber occasion turned into a celebration of Don’s life, I know that I will always miss my friend. Godspeed Don.

would the 39 convertible like to live in California?

I don't believe Don could have found a better group of friends.

Hi Andy, and a very Merry Christmas to you! I really enjoyed seeing you, and cruisin' up to Don Garlits Museum with you in the '39 CS at 75 mph...:)

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

Hi Vic 75 mph wow - what rear in you CS? I assume you have OD

Vic Piano 12-18-2015 05:27 PM

Re: What I Did on My Lunch Hour

No OD (yet). 3.78 rear. To be fair, we did not cruise for long distances at 75 mph, that was only when we were passing big trucks...;) 65 mph is normal cruising speed in the '39 CS. I run Skip's water pumps with no thermostats and she runs between 165 and 170 degrees while cruising. sitting in traffic is another story, up to 200+ depending on how long she sits still. Once she gets going again the temp quickly returns to 165-170. I'm running a stock 221 c.i. with Red's headers and Brockman Mellow-Tones. Also running 6.00X16 radial tires set at 40 psi.
