Lower front of ‘35 Considering lowering type spindles while converting to hydraulic brakes. Beings I will need new spindles to accommodate the Bendix brake kit & drums. If I do I know I’ll need to change the steering link that attaches to it. Is there other modifications I’ll need to do?

Re: Lower front of ‘35 They don't make lowering type spindles for early Fords. You have a couple of options. Use a reversed leaf eye spring or invest in a dropped axle. It depends on how far you want to drop the front. With the axle you will need some different steering arms which you can get from Speedway (or other sources) along with the new spindles. You may or may not need to change the drag link or tie rod. Sometimes you need to shorten them.

Re: Lower front of ‘35 I have Posies reversed eye springs front & rear from Speedway Motors on my '37.I like 'em !

You also will have to modify the top of your new spindles to make the new backing plates lay flat. I used a die grinder. I used MT Brake kit. Made a template to assure grinding fit. |

Re: Lower front of ‘35 I love the attempted weld in that pic.....LOL

Re: Lower front of ‘35 At least the weld has more metal then the fender.
I agree about the drop spindles. Don't know what that means, but maybe that exists now. Yes you have to drop the spindle arms if you go with a dropped axle. Most dropped axles decrease the wheel track length to clear the fenders when turning, which is important. Which would make all the linkage shorter. Steering arm will work, tie bar will need to be shortened. If I was going to do a serious front drop on a 35, the only way to get there is with a drop axle. (well or bags) If you don't mind the track length shorter. You'll want to adjust and refresh all the linkage anyways. sids https://droppedaxles.com/ . |

Lowered sometimes means attacking driveways differently.

Hey rich .....Nothin' wrong with a lowered '35, for sure! I was purely speaking about one still shod with the stock wire wheels. This one pictured has reached the limit (in my eyes) of lowering one (with WIRES) before going TOO far. In fact, the REAR is TOO low, especially with the wheel/tire 'sunk' back into the fender opening that much. And don't confuse THIS car with the beauty that "PeterC" used to own. PeterC's coupe was "PURE Perfection"! DD https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/attac...4&d=1624510836 |

Praise the lowered!

Re: Lower front of ‘35 I believe you would be happy with just a reversed spring eye in the front. Any good spring shop can do it by re-arching the spring the other way. Not much money, and you get about an 1 & 1/2" drop.
|
Re: Lower front of ‘35 You could also do it by just changing tires............big n littles.

Re: Lower front of ‘35 Thx guys, will need to digest a bit ;)

Man, that's a perfect suggestion. And, just so that you have a good idea of how much drop you will ACTUALLY achieve, I would have ONLY the bottom, MAIN leaf reversed. Then, you'll have a difficult time using a spring spreader on a REVERSED-eye spring. Simple little solution in pictures below! Lot of nice cars out there. Probably not the car I would hang my hat on a nail for. But I digress.... |
Re: Lower front of ‘35 That 35 4 door looks like it has air bags to me. The guy to call for 35-36 chassis help is Josh Carrillo at Carrillo Customs in Los Osos (NOT LODI) California.
