1934 Accessory Artillery Wheel 4 Attachment(s)
I purchased these wheels about 20 years ago when I had a 1934 2-Door. I bought them from the son of gentleman who bought a new Ford in 1934 and these wheels were on it. They take 16 inch tires and have 14 spokes, were chrome in the center and have a lock ring when you inflate the tire. The four hub caps came with the wheels. I have seen only one other with the same wheel and hub cap. It was on an original unrestored 1934 Ford as the spare tire. On the back of the hub they say "Budd Made in USA" and the patent number is 1376390. Can anyone provide any information about these. Where they a dealer installation or anything else. I sold the 34 and have regretted it ever since.
Thanks. |
Re: 1934 Accessory Artillery Wheel How wide are they? If they are the same or close to the same as a normal 16" 35 up wheel, they are Ply or some other make wheels. If they are much wider, they are wheels made for "jumbo" tires in the 30s era. Goodyear and others had them.

Re: 1934 Accessory Artillery Wheel 1 Attachment(s)
This is the forth set that I have seen, and all had a verbal history
connected to 34 ford's. That's pretty good anectdotle evidence for me. Mine were represented as take offs of a 34 coupe. They are 16'' Budd wheels and take 4&1/2'' width. Recently there was a post of a period publicity photo of a movie star in a 34 roadster with these wheels and the tires do not look like Jumbos. Wish we could find a photo of these wheels in a dealer showroom . |

Re: 1934 Accessory Artillery Wheel DAVID J. .............................
I don't think that you will ever find a photo of these wheels in a dealer showroom. They were aftermarket, and a lot of them might have been sold and installed by the local Ford dealer. It's possible that a Ford dealer advertised and photographed the wheels, but don't bet your bippy, that you will ever find one. MIKE :) (mikeburch) |

Re: 1934 Accessory Artillery Wheel Seems like I saw several 'Want Ads,' where a well-known restorer was offering stupid money for a set of these wheels. That would have been 3 or 4 years ago. His ads ran for a while, so he must have had are hard time finding a decent set.

Re: 1934 Accessory Artillery Wheel I have a set of THREE of these, have been looking for a fourth for years. No point for me to restore them until I find one...!

Here is another period photo of a 34 with Budd wheels.
Found on ebay. |
Re: 1934 Accessory Artillery Wheel See the V8 club 33-34 restoration book p.5-7 and 5-33, 5-41 not an authorized accessory. If you do not have a copy of the book I recommend it.
