Progress report... 6 Attachment(s)
...and many questions to follow as I start dissecting my coupe's body.
With the chassis mostly complete, I turned my attention to the body. Pictured is what's left of the interior after I carefully removed the ugly vinyl someone installed. |

I also removed an outer layer of grained roof material someone added.
I need to figure out what's original to the interior and roof, and how it was installed so I can make note of it for later. |
Re: Progress report... I never worked on a coupe but your on the right track. By the way your doing a aaaaaaasome job, keep up the good work. more pics the better for fixing thing latter.

Re: Progress report... go super careful with removing the trim strip at the bottom of the fabric top. Yours seems to be in very good condition and this trim strip is not reproduced. proceed with caution, you have an irreplaceable unique part.

Re: Progress report... Looks like you are missing the two stiffener wires that run from the main bow to the header. whats your plan? harrtz canvas? Im leaning toward black on mine,course thats about two hundred years from now:)

Exterior black covering, layer of cotton, burlap, some type of treated fabric, and finally a stiff paper / cardboard type material. Re: Progress report... Check out this link,its to Lebaron Bonneys top kit for a 29 Sport Coupe,it shows the cardboard stiffeners and 'reinforcing rods' which is what I was showing you.

Chief & I once did a Coupe top, using a NEW Cotton sack & coated it with that canned Roof Patching Tar, in a NO label can. Once it set awhile, we brushed it with an OLD STIFF brush & it looked like LOOOOONG GRAINED COPRA---LOL BUT, it looked SUPER & didn't LEAK! Bill & Chief Poor |

I also noticed very thin flat flexible steel straps that are sewn into the fabric top. Some extend down from the support rods to above the doors. Plus a few on each side and rear of the roof. I wonder if a new top has them already sewn in, or if I have to do it? :o ? |
Re: Progress report... One quick question. I noticed that, originally, many of the cloth covered cardboard interior panels had tacks through the cardboard, but not the cloth. How'd they do that without damaging the cloth?

Many questions, but not many answers. Everyone must be on vacation :D.
No problem, as i'm answering most of my own questions as i'm going along. I figured out how to get the belt-line trim molding off. It's easy with the right tools. Took me about an hour and with no damage to the molding or the car body. The molding looks perfect. No rust, cracks, or dents. |

I've been busy removing rivets. This is how she looked yesterday. She's completely apart now, down to her sub rails and cross members.
