Are the supplier's "v8 STYLE pressure plates" really for tractors? I was reading this:
http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/pressureplates.htm Do any of the suppliers currently sell real v8 pressure plates (rather than "v8 STYLE") that have flyweights, or they all sell the inferior tractor ones, as described in article above. |
Re: Are the supplier's "v8 STYLE pressure plates" really for tractors? I guess the best thing to do before buying is to ask and be sure. I think the better shops will sell the correct parts or at least be upfront about their products.

Re: Are the supplier's "v8 STYLE pressure plates" really for tractors? Having owned a Ford 9N tractor, I would have to take umbrage to the "inferior tractor ones" according to the OP. That said, Bert's has the V-8 pressure plates. My flywheel is 28 pounds.

Re: Are the supplier's "v8 STYLE pressure plates" really for tractors? The tractor clutches don't have the weights on the fingers that V8 clutches have. They increase the clamping force at higher RPM's. I recommend diaphragm clutches, they are much smoother, clamp well and take less pedal pressure to operate them.

I agree on both points that you've made here. Centrifugal weights were/are improvement over 'tractor' PP, that's obvious advancement. I lost my spec info as to which diaphragm PP you used (year/model number). Can you issue that to me again please. |

Re: Are the supplier's "v8 STYLE pressure plates" really for tractors? Hardtimes, mine is a #07017D bought from Clutch Masters in Rialto, CA. They machined my flywheel too, I furnished one already cut for a V8 clutch.

The V8 with the counterwiegits have the pivot points secured by cotter pins. I had a cir clip come off. Clutch would not release. Towed home. V8 pp are available at Ft Wayne Clutch, google it. The have a "kit" includes TO and pilot bearings and clutch.

I have a original Ford disc (v8)in my A, it was in the car when I got it 50 years ago, I took the picture when I was trying to get it unstuck, drove over 40 miles jerking it, still wouldn't pop loose, had the car bucking jumping on- off gas, then I learned that I could shift without grinding, that the starter did fine starting from a stop in gear, I tapped the hole in the picture , put a bolt in it and yanked, and it popped off the flywheel---- the original Ford disc doesn't have spring capture flanges, and neither in the box nos ones don't have them, perhaps the springs are better, the metal thicker than modern production --- in the era it was common to replace just the facings on old disc
