Stromberg carbs

Have a intake that set up to run 4 carbs

Do you run all 4 or just 2 and use linkage to run the other ones

Re: Stromberg carbs

Given the design of most 4-carb intakes, they are designed to run all four in unison. Unless you have a larger cubic inch engine and are into real racing, you might be best off with four of the smaller 81 Strombergs.

And that can get real expensive.

It's a inline 6 301 cubic inch with a 588 camshaft for a hot rod

Re: Stromberg carbs

In your case, you should be able to run 2, with the other 2 on a progressive linkage.

Now you have piqued my interest. Would you mind sharing what kind of an engine this is? The only 300+ ci vintage inline sixes I can think of are Hudsons (308 ci) and GMC's (302 ci). Since yours is smaller, I'm stumped.

Re: Stromberg carbs

OK. That explains it. (Modern stuff.) Sounds healthy, though. It might run OK progressive, but I bet straight would be better. The only time I ran 4 97's was on the 331 Hemi in my racecar (straight linkage, of course). It ran great and was quite fast, but for some reason, I had to go through the carbs every year. I finally had enough of that and went to two large-base 2G's on a different manifold; it ran about as good and the carburetors are completely trouble free. (One of the guys I raced with ran a 320 ci Buick straight eight with 5 97's (straight linkage as well.)

When I had the first setup, I ran across an article someplace (maybe on the H.A.M.B.) that explained how to properly set up 4 in a row with a straight linkage for the street. Maybe I can find again it if you're interested.

The gm carbs are good for shure but they don't look as good as the older ones

Re: Stromberg carbs

How about three Carter YH side draft carburetors, like the early Corvettes?

Also used on turbocharged Corvairs and some Nash, I think.
