Re: adjusting stock 37' ford brakes 55 dude:
Buy yourself a 1937 1938 Ford Chassis V8 Car Shop Manual. It has the info inside on how to adjust the brakes plus much more! You can find them on ebay or from the Macs catalog. Hope this helps. Don |
Re: adjusting stock 37' ford brakes don thanks! i did find some online info to adjust 38' brakes and i thought a manual would make for some interesting reading. i'm not sure if the car i'm about to purchase has one included and would like to adjust brakes first thing before waking it up after 30 years in the garage, should be fun.

Re: adjusting stock 37' ford brakes You definately need the SB's and will have to carefully check the cables for each wheel. They must move freely or screwed up braking for that wheel.

Re: adjusting stock 37' ford brakes SB'S? not familiar with that term, we will make sure everything moves free and is lubed up. been many years since i rode in vehicle with mechanical brakes. grandparents neighbor had 36' pu. and i remember coming to each stop sign "hold on we might stop!" i used to close my eyes whenever i saw a stop sign.

Re: adjusting stock 37' ford brakes my truck sat for 30 years when i got it home it did not stop, i gave it a quick adjustment , like a modern car that helped. you may have to take things apart and clean thim then lube thim. one thing that helps is to rebuild the cross shaft. it wears out no zerk fittings you will get it to stop good. my 36 stops good and i know that i can get it to stop better, good luck ,Brendan

Re: adjusting stock 37' ford brakes Another thing to check is the bake lining material. In 39 the linings were changed to hard linings with the change to hydraulics. If you put hard linings on mechanical brakes you greatly reduce the effectiveness. Make sure you have woven linings. It made a big difference on my 37.
