To pal nut connecting rod or not
 

Putting to gether my 255 Merc. and wanted to know any opinions on reusing the old PAL nuts on the rods. thank you in advance.

I would use new ones. some of them might be mishapen. Don't take a chance. They don't cost that much.

Do we even need them? I toss them off . Loctite? Just the torque value? , chev rod nuts? So deep in the engine I always worry about the bottom end when I have to finally button it up. Pal nuts seem so old skool.

I toss the pal nuts. No loctite necessary either. A properly torqued fastener will not come loose.

Chevy rod nuts and if it makes you sleep better at night some loctite...

Chev nutz. The proper name for them is Marsden nuts. Self locking. No Loctite. Just oil lube the thread.

I have seen so much reference to these. I live on an island, just a napa store. They don't have them. I've never seen one. The chev rod nuts are made by clevite, the bearing people?
