Testing fuel pump

I installed a a new airtex dobule action fuel pump on my 52 Victoria it didn't work pulled it off and ran a hose from the intake to a can of fuel and operated by hand still didn't work so returned it and they sent a new one that acts the same way, wondering if I am missing something or the pumps are both defective.

Check to make sure that the glass bowl is secure with no leaks.
Also check to make sure there is a total movement of appox. .200 of the push rod.

If it has a glass bowl fill that with fuel as well before trying to start to prime the pump if you have not tried that previously.

I'm curious about how it was operated by hand. I was trying one a few months back and had to hold the pump firmly in both hands and push the actuating arm against a bench ledge to get enough stroke to make it pump.

Re: Testing fuel pump

Filled glass bowl with fuel even pushed some fuel thru pump with a syringe still cannot get it to pump, The arm only moves about a quarter inch not too hard to do by hand.
