Checking Transmission Fluidmin 1949 Ford

How to check the Transmission Fluid level in a 1949 Ford 8BA Engine with standard Transmission. Also, if fluid is needed where do you put it in and what type fluid would I need. Thanks very much.

You have a plug on the side of the transmission...you fill up to the level where it will come out the plug.
For gearlube there are many opinions...just make sure itīs safe for the brass syncros.
I use normal 80w90 API GL3 nothing fancy.

GL-4 will be ok. Viscosity depends on how you like the way it shifts.

Bob, One thing(of many) I didn't know when I first had an Overdrive with my standard transmission was add oil to the transmission only but drain both when changing fluid. Service manual does say that somewhere. Don
